Job Shadowing Program

Dear Chamber Member,

Are you enthusiastic about providing students with opportunities to consider your industry as a profession while encouraging our youth to stay in the area? Perhaps you’ve been challenged in the past finding the right prospective hires for your future needs? Young people make better decisions about their future career when given a first-hand look at workforce realities. You can help Roanoke’s high schoolers gain a better understanding of what working for a business like yours might entail.

The Salem City School Division is partnering with the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia, Inc., to enhance the current Job Shadowing Program for Salem High School Students. Plans also include rolling this out to other schools after a media push this spring. Through this initiative, students get a chance to see what it’s like to work in envisioned careers by spending the day with adults who can provide information about the nature of the work, job requirements and the benefits of such positions.

Chamber members in every industry are welcome to enroll as a Job Shadowing Host Site.

All we ask of you is the following:

  1. A commitment to host Salem High School students at your business for one-day job shadowing placements.

  2. A designated individual to serve as a liaison from your office. (The time commitment is minimal.)

We hope you will support our efforts to improve students’ understanding of the variety of careers available while also helping you introduce our youth to your industry opportunities.  Please complete the Job Shadow Host Business Enrollment Form on the next page and email {}, mail {611 E Main St, Salem, VA 24153} or fax {540-387-4110} it to the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber office.
